Well, on a recommendation from a friend I decided to purchase/read this book. I was not disappointed. It was a great read! Loved the interaction between characters.Although to be honest, I was pretty sure I had the ending all figured out. But lo and behold the author outsmarted me. A believable ending because after all we humans are somewhat unpredictable.
I recommend this book to all readers who enjoy an intriguing story well told.

I really enjoyed this book ... it grabbed me from the first few pages, and I was sorry to see it end. I would call it historical fiction, and learned interesting facts about the history California's waterways. It also had an intriguing personal story running throughout that made me really care about the charactors. I highly recommend it!
Thoughtful, well written, and compelling, this story blends history, mysticism and heroic venture played out on today's battlefield pitting large populations against local communities as they vie for precious water rights. Returning home to deal with his ailing father, a young man who has achieved meteoric success in the big city, reevaluates his early experiences and discovers the broader meaning of his destiny. The author's attention to detail, historical knowledge of events, and familiarity with the topography, lulls the reader into believing this is more non-fiction than not.
